Sailing your ship onboard for a ketogenic lifestyle can often leave you heartbroken as you have to limit the intake of your favorite food items like muffins, pizza, and sugars. But it is not always just unhealthy foods that you must stop eating in a keto diet. Many food items that are rich in vitamins and minerals are also debarred in this low-carb diet plan as they are rich sources of carbs which do not go well with the plans. Let’s have a look at them:

  • Starchy Veggies: Peas and sweet potatoes are starchy veggies that are a power source of carbs and hence a big no in keto diets. Opt for greener veggies like broccoli or zucchini instead of peas. And cauliflower is a great substitute for sweet potatoes.
  • Processed food: Processed foods like pretzels and crackers are to be avoided in this restrictive diet plan. Bypass those cravings to keto-friendly sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and nuts.
  • Grains: Grains of all kinds are to be kept off the table. This includes rice, bread, pasta, and quinoa.
  • Cow’s milk: Despite the fact that whole milk has a higher fat content than reduced-fat or skim, that doesn’t make it keto compliant. If you want a milk base for your smoothie bowl, go for almond milk instead.
  • Trail mix: Look for what is in your trail mix. If they contain raisins, pretzels, or chocolate pieces, then it’s a no-no for sure. Plain or roasted salted nuts are great alternatives for this.
  • High-carb fruits: Melons and other tropical fruits are often rich in carbs and hence off-limits in keto. If you want to eat fruit, berries are a lower-carb choice. But still, you will have to limit their quantities since fruits naturally contain more carbs.

Many food items that are nutrient-rich may not work well with keto plans, hence the need to be limited. Always try to eat keto-friendly foods while you embark on keto diets to get beneficial results!
