How To Keep Chicken Nuggets Warm In A Packed Lunch For Kids
All this week I’ve been sharing hot lunch ideas that kids can bring to school or nursery. So far all of these recipes have been quite sauce based and containing different types of food all mixed together.
For fussy eaters I know that not all of these recipes will be eaten so today I thought I would show you instead how to pack simple uncomplicated foods like chicken nuggets.
The first step as always is to preheat a food flask by filling it with boiling water, adding the lid and leaving for 15 minutes. This will get the thermos nice and hot ready to add the nuggets once cooked.
After 15 minutes, remove the water. I usually pour it back into the kettle to avoid wasting it.
Whilst the food flask is heating, cook your chicken nuggets according to package instructions. These are standard nuggets from a box that can be oven baked or air fried.
When the food flask has been heated and you have removed the water, quickly dry it with a towel.
Then add a couple of sheets of kitchen paper to the bottom of the flask. This helps to soak up moisture from the nuggets and stop them from getting soggy.
Then add your nuggets in on top of the kitchen paper, before securing the lid.
It’s important to do these steps quickly so that you don’t let too much heat escape from the flask.
The chicken nuggets will remain nice and warm for 3-4 hours so long as the flask isn’t opened.
They won’t be as crispy as when they first come out of the oven but the kitchen paper trick will help them to retain some of the bite and stop them from going soggy.
