How to Make Chocolate Hummus

Full steps on how to make chocolate hummus are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post. This is a quick walk through on how it is made.

  1. Start by adding ingredients into the food processor.
  2. Then mix until it is nice and smooth and the clumps are broken down.
  3. Add more almond milk if you want to thin up the texture.
  4. Pour into a bowl and serve with fresh fruit, pretzels, cookies and more.

Helpful Tips for Success

Food Processor

I find that the food processor works best for making hummus. If you do not own one you can use a high speed blender.

If you find your hummus is too thick, simply add a splash more of almond milk to reach the desired consistency you would like.

Dark Chocolate Hummus Variations

Honey or Agave

If you don’t need this to be vegan you can use honey as the sweetener. Or even a liquid agave will work in replace of the maple syrup. Simply sweeten to taste.

Dark Chocolate Cocoa Powder

You can reach for the dark chocolate cocoa to really elevate the flavor of this hummus even more. I used a regular cocoa but feel free to change it up.

Plant Based Dairy

You can swap from almond milk to coconut milk, soy, etc. Feel free to use what you have on hand. I just prefer to use almond milk as we have that a lot in our kitchen.

Dark Chocolate Hummus FAQs

Is this a sweet hummus?

Yes, this is a dessert hummus. The chickpeas are the base but the other ingredients help to elevate the flavor to a chocolate flavor.

How to store leftover chocolate hummus?

If you do not eat all your hummus, simply store in an airtight container in the fridge. The hummus will store for 4-5 days. Just stir and then dish up the hummus.

Does hummus freeze?

I do not recommend freezing hummus. It is going to alter the texture and it will not taste very good. I recommend making only what you plan to eat within the time before it spoils.

Are chickpeas and garbanzo beans the same thing?

Depending on where you live you might call chickpeas garbanzo beans. They are the same thing in terms of making hummus. So feel free to use garbanzo beans if that is what it is labeled on the can.
